Best NeoCon Interior Design Winners
Posted on June 6, 2014
NeoCon is North America’s largest design exposition and conference for commercial interiors, annually attended by over 40,000 architecture and interior design professionals. With over three days of non-stop resources, energy and ideas, NeoCon is one of the most important design industry events of the year. And as the 2014 NeoCon exposition is quickly approaching, we wanted to take a closer look at some of the best designs from the 2013 event.
Taking the silver medal in the Healthcare Seating category (and the Why Didn’t I Think of That category) is the JumpSeat Wall by Sedia Systems. The JumpSeat is a flexible chair that can easily adapt to a variety of environments. When seating is needed, but space is constrained, the JumpSeat Wall is the ideal solution. The innovative folding mechanism allows the seat to cantilever off of the wall, making it the ideal situation for hospital corridors, waiting rooms and any public assembly area with limited space for seating.
And winning the gold medal in the Wall Treatment category is Skyline Digital Glass from Skyline Design. The Skyline Digital Glass Portfolio launched a collection of artworks by national artists that transform public spaces by uniting creative visions with the architectural potential of glass. The variety of images and styles—linear, textural, playful, organic—offer a range of scales and transparencies, perfectly suited for corporate and healthcare environments.
The winner of the silver medal in the Decorative Lighting category was the Seeyond Lighted Wall Facing from Seeyond Architectural Solutions. Seeyond Architectural Solutions introduced Lighted Wall Facings as a dramatic yet sophisticated way to illuminate space. Featuring organic and iconic shapes, these facings can change the entire atmosphere of existing space, bringing it to life and giving it new energy. This Cellular Resin wall facing features complex forms and remote-controlled programmable LED lighting.
In the Modular Carpet category, the silver medal went to Hexagon by the Shaw Contract Group. A natural evolution of form, Hexagon is a logical move for carpet tile. Non-linear in composition, it reflects the shift toward collaborative environments—impacting the way we work, walk, communicate and exist within a space. Reinforcing the social aspect of a space as well as the physical and mental interaction within it, Hexagon creates connection points and removes linear paths to facilitate networking.
Winning a special award in the Editor’s Choice category is the Cliffy 6000 by SIXINCH. Founded in Belgium in 2003, SIXINCH specializes in high concept foam coated furniture. From their collection, the Cliffy 6000, a 6 meter long landscape lounge, is a show stopping furniture piece that adds a touch of rock and roll to lobbies, offices or outdoor spaces.
Also taking home an Editor’s Choice award is the Hopper Picnic Bench from JANUS et Cie. Hopper bears resemblance to traditional picnic tables with a contemporary, functional design. Hopper is constructed of Iroko wood slats and a galvanized steel frame or a colorful powder coated aluminum frame. Hopper’s unique leg shape makes it easy to get in and out without disturbing table companions. It even features a sunshade to keep guests cool during those summer barbeques.
